Each year, the March of the Living brings students from all over the world to Poland to visit sites of mass murder and genocide. On Holocaust Remembrance Day, they march from Auschwitz to Birkenau in memory of all Nazi victims decrying prejudice, intolerance and hate. Accompanying the students are Holocaust survivors who share their stories standing in the very places their tragic histories unfolded.
Last month, a unique exhibit opened at the United Nations – “When You Listen To A Witness, You Become A Witness” includes powerfully moving images and reflections in verse, gleaned from 25 years of March of the Living. The exhibit documents the stories of the aging survivors and their young students who, hand in hand, embark on this life changing journey and return profoundly transformed. Much of the material is Canadian, as Eli Rubenstein of Toronto, and National Director of March of the Living Canada, was one of the creators of the Exhibit.
Eli Rubenstein will share images, stories, prose and poems from the students and survivors featured in this powerful exhibit.
