Reflections on how to understand and apply todays environmental challenge from within a Torah-based Judaism. How can traditional Judaism meet a modern issue and what lessons can we as socially aware Jews learn from this.
The talk will be based on gleanings from an attempt to obtain “environmental response” from 45 mainstream rabbis and leaders in Israel in 2008.
Rabbi Shaul Judelman was born and raised in Seattle, Washington in public schools and the Conservative movement. Since arriving in Israel in 2000 he has been a part of a number of environmental initiatives in the religious community and taught in a wide range of formats. He is the director of Jerusalem Volunteers for the Environment and the environmental director of EretzShalom – Land of Peace. Now 34, he lives in Israel with his wife and 2 daughters, and is involved with grass-roots peace work.
