The mitzvah of Bikur Cholim
The mitzvah of Bikur Cholim: Hot soup on a cold winter’s day
Visiting the sick is a Jewish value and an act of loving kindness. While you cannot cure your friend’s illness, removing a person’s feeling of isolation helps them get better spiritually. It can be a visit to a senior, setting up a play date for the kids, or if it’s something contagious like chicken pox or the flu, just dropping off a meal.
When we become available to another human being in pain, we become more compassionate ourselves. The Bikkur Cholim Committee will give you all the help you need to get started. If you’d like to call or visit a member of our community, or if you know of someone who is in need of a visit, please contact Rabbi Zachary Goodman.
