Baseball Update: The Holy Bs Win Quarter-Finals!
In what some are calling the best overall game played by the Holy Bs in 5 years (or more), the Bs cruised to an 18 – 3 victory over Beth Sholom today landing the team in the league semi finals for the first time in over 5 years. We do not know who we are playing yet in that game but expect that it will be the winner of the Temple Kol Ami/Beth Tzedec game on September 18.
This morning started on an appropriately sombre note as both teams met at the pitcher’s mound for a prayer in memory of the victims of the 9/11 attacks.
Once play began the Bs wasted no time putting up 4 runs in the first inning. We scored in all but 3 innings today and held Beth Sholom to runs in only two of their nine innings. Also, of the 13 players to suit up for Holy Blossom today, 10 of us scored at least once. It was a balanced offensive attack; here are some of the particulars:
Nate Charach batting in the leadoff spot (of course) went 5 for 5 today and made some great catches in the field. Ryan Abrahamson, Richie Borins, Randy Cass, Ken Herlin and Allan Lyons each had 3 hits today and Allan was a homerun away from hitting for the cycle. Josh Silver played his usual spectacular defence at shortstop and hit the only homerun of the day of the inside the park variety. Jeff Levy came through with 2 big RBIs.
The Holy B defence was spectacular. The outfield of Charach, Rosenberg, Burton, Abrahamson and Davis make all the plays look easy out there. Great game guys! Ken Herlin had the defensive play of the day sliding into first base on a grounder to the right side of the infield in the late innings. The infield was also pretty solid today playing nearly flawless baseball.
