The Holy Bs are on a Roll!
That is right folks, the Holy Bs improved their record to 7 – 2 with a 15 – 14 victory over our rivals from Beth Tzedec.
This game may not have been the best performance by the Bs this season but it was close to being the best and it was certainly the most exciting game we have played in a very long time. We led the game from wire to wire with our largest lead of the game being 14 – 8 after 7 innings. Those Beth Tzedec guys could certainly hit the ball though and they put up 5 runs in the top of the 8th to put the pressure back on the home team. The game ended on a ground ball to shortstop Randy Cass with runners on second and third. Yes, it was a close one!
There was unanimous agreement on the defensive play of the game. John Phillips was playing second base and went far to his right (towards second) on a ground ball. Not only did John get to the ball but he was able to throw back to first base and beat the runner by a step. John also reached base 3 times although the last one appears to have been on a fielder’s choice.
Here is a summary of some of the Bs batting:
Nate Charach was 3 for 4 or maybe 4 for 4 (who filled out this scorecard?). He scored twice. Josh Silver was 3 for 4 and scored 3 runs and knocked in a couple. Ken Herlin had a big 2 RBI double in the first inning with two outs. Marc Levy was smacking the ball today going 3 for 3. Jon Davis was one for 3 but his hit was a 2 RBI double that was key to our 5 run 7th inning. Adam Griff was back after a couple of weeks away and went 3 for 3.
Everyone played well and it was a great team victory.
For those of you who are not following the standings on a weekly basis, we are currently in a three way tie for second place. We can finish in 2nd, 3rd or 4th place and will have home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs because we can’t fall below 4th. There are 11 teams in our league.
