Dear Grade 3 Parents:
This week in class, we practiced singing the four questions, and we read an amazing book to connect our historical slavery story with modern narratives. We read The Carpet Boy’s Gift by Pegi Deitz Shea to learn about child slavery in Pakistan. It is the true story of children sold into slavery in Pakistan to pay off the debts of their families. One boy, Iqbal Masih escaped his bondage, went to school and learned that child labour is against the law.
I hope that by telling and re-telling our own freedom story that students will be able to connect to the modern struggles of others. If you are interested in knowing more about this book or other similar stories that can be brought into your family’s seder, just let me know.
