Sunday February 26 – Daniel
Dear Parents:
This week in Grade 3, we learned about bravery in the Purim story in a bit of an unconventional way. We began the class by reading the story ” Brave Girl: Clara and the Shirtwaist Makers’ Strike of 1909” It is the story of a young Jewish immigrant in New York city who bravely stood up for workers rights at the turn of the century. Next, we created our own superheroes, amazing characters who also stand up for the rights of others using their special talents and abilities. Lastly, we looked at the story of Purim through the lens of bravery and heroism to try to discover who is the real hero of the Purim story. Students made the connection that just like Clara, Esther needed bravery to stand up to King Ashachverosh.
