Stagecraft presents its Spring Production – “Shiksas Sit Shiva”
Thursday, June 19 at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, June 21 at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, June 22 at 2:00 p.m.
It happens.
Sometimes Jewish men marry women who are not Jewish.
And then they die.
The men.
Not that there is a connection.
They don’t die BECAUSE they marry women who are not Jewish.
But they do die.
And the women have to pick up the pieces.
In “Shiksas Sit Shiva”, Stagecraft’s spring production, the patriarch of the family passes. The various women in the family, none of whom (but one – the daughter) is Jewish, start their lives without the Patriarch, but with each other.
“Shiksas Sit Shiva” is a play that looks at a family in crisis, and provides us with a funny and touching look at how a death in the family brings all the tensions and misunderstandings beautifully and hilariously to life.
Written by Melinda Little and Catherine Hayos, “Shiksas Sit Shiva” was first performed at the 2007 Toronto Fringe Festival where it was voted Best Production, Best Ensemble and Patron’s Pick.
As directed by Eric Kirsh, and starring Rhona Bennett, Susanne Egier, Heather Finestone, Anna Grosman, and Judy Kent, “Shiksas Sit Shiva” brings us into the heart of a family that is just like ours… only more.
At Holy Blossom Temple on Thursday, June 19 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday June 21 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday June 22 at 2:00 p.m. Performances will be in the Eisendrath Auditorium.
Tickets are $18.00 ($15.00 for students and seniors). For tickets please call 416-789-3291 ext. 511, and leave a message.
