Seeds, Sprouts and Scripture: The Jewish-Muslim Planting Project

“While few Reform rabbis doubt the importance of interfaith work, there have been some criticisms of interfaith work by thinkers such as Rabbi Joseph Soloveitchik.  Rabbi Soloveitchik urges us to proudly celebrate our own faith and leave others to proudly celebrate their own religious traditions.  One of element of the Jewish tradition that I personally celebrate is our interest in treating the world around us as sacred.  Thankfully, this is shared by many other religious traditions.

Therefore, I strongly encourage anyone between the ages of 15 and 30 to take part Seeds, Sprouts and Scriptures.  The purpose of this day is to learn more about our world and deepen our knowledge of Judaism by discussing its relationship to the natural world it in relation to Islam’s approach to the world around us.  This is a fantastic opportunity to both learn through interfaith text study and to give back through volunteering at a drop-in centre and exploring planting.  Come learn, plant, and give back.”
