Reflections on growing up at HBT
Reflections on growing up at HBT

The recent exhibit in the Living History Display in the Schwartz/Reisman Atrium is from my collection of memorabilia and significant documents and photos from my time as a member of NFTY and NELFTY – growing up at HBT and my involvement in the youth program. The display, produced by Judy Toker, illustrates the important role that our Temple played in my growth as a Reform Jew and my commitment to our community and the larger Reform movement. I was privileged to serve as NFTY President, First Vice-President and NELFTY President. Rabbi Plaut, Heinz Warschauer and Gordy Wolfe were my mentors and supported and encouraged me throughout my time growing up as a teenager.
My commitment continued through serving in many different roles both at Temple and in the Reform movement. As a trustee of the Union for Reform Judaism, I served as a Vice-Chair of the Board and continue to be involved in the work of our Reform Zionist organizations (having served as President of ARZA Canada and Chair of ARZENU).
My hope is that the exhibit will inspire our younger members to continue their involvement and commitment to Temple and engage deeply with Reform Judaism and Israel. I also hope that members will share their experiences and tell us about the impact HBT had on them and their families.
