Rabbinic Position Description

Dear Congregant,

An important element of the Senior Rabbi search for Holy Blossom Temple is the development of a Rabbinic Position description. Following the format provided by the Central Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR) and the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ), your Search Committee has prepared its response to their key questions. Our answers focusing on the Temple’s highest needs and priorities, are drawn from a review of input of congregants in the Coming Together and Looking Forward phases of the Rabbinic Transition Process. They are also based on congregants’ written and oral submissions to us, as well as feedback from members of the Temple’s clergy, leadership and committees. The Temple’s Board of Directors discussed and modified our responses before our President, Dr. Harvey Schipper signed off on the version we have submitted to the CCAR for posting. This job posting is accessible to Rabbis in North America and around the world.

Attached for your information is the key section of the Senior Rabbi position description. There are, of course, other sections that deal with factual questions about the Congregation and its membership, budget, physical facilities.

The next steps in the Rabbinic Search process include a review of applications from qualified candidates, a successive series of interviews first by telephone and Skype and then, when applicable, personal visits over the next several months. The standard set by the CCAR for a congregation of our size is to limit applications to Rabbis with more than eight years of experience. Your Search Committee is also grateful for the feedback that it received from members of the congregation suggesting Rabbis that might be considered.

Our intention is to keep the Congregation informed of our progress throughout this period although, for reasons of confidentiality, we shall not be able to discuss any individual candidates.  For understandable reasons, the Search Committee will pause during the High Holy Day period.
