Our Senior Rabbi: A letter from Harvey Schipper, President
Dear Congregants,
I hope you will be with us on the evening of September 20th for an historic occasion, the Installation of Rabbi Yael Splansky as the thirteenth Senior Rabbi of Holy Blossom Temple, Toronto’s first synagogue.
Shortly after her selection was announced, Rabbi Moscowitz generously suggested that it would be in the best interests of all that the title of Senior Rabbi be bestowed upon Rabbi Splansky, with the full support of her long-time mentor and friend, before the scheduled completion of his term as Senior Rabbi next June, and that he transition to Rabbi Emeritus earlier than originally planned. Your Board and Executive are extremely grateful to Rabbi Moscowitz for this, and we look forward to honouring his quarter-century of service to our Temple with a special event next year.
September 20th will be a memorable and meaningful occasion. We will begin with a celebratory champagne Reception and Havdallah. The Installation Ceremonies will include an address from our distinguished guest, Rabbi David Ellenson, Chancellor of Hebrew Union College, the premier teacher of the Reform Movement. And we will conclude with the nightfall service of Selichot. Its exquisite music prepares us for the High Holy Days.
Now at the doorstep of a new year, the time is right to celebrate Rabbi Splansky as our Senior Rabbi. She has brought countless gifts of innovation and insight to our congregation for more than sixteen years. Now we celebrate her leadership and walk over the threshold into a new year, so full of promise.
L’Shanah Tovah,
Dr. Harvey Schipper
