I have been privileged to work on the Interfaith Committee for the vision of harmony and peace. Together with Holy Blossom Temple, Metropolitan United Church and the Intercultural Dialogue Institution, we Jews, Christians and Muslims are committed to promote harmony and understanding among the different cultures and religions.
A magnificent production with a universal message for harmony and peace, ABRAHAM, is particularly relevant for us during these tumultuous days. In the Torah and the Qur’an, Abraham is a central figure to the decedents of Ishmael and Isaac. The new testament gives this kinship a symbolic meaning determined by faith rather then parentage. Abraham breaks with the past and converses out new paths. Abraham is bound to a new covenant with God. He walks in front of God anticipating what he must do in the name of justice and peace. Abraham in all three religions is portrayed as hospitable, kind and merciful. Abraham is neither indifferent to the suffering of the helpless nor is he indifferent to wickedness. The Torah clearly tells the narrative story of Ishmael and at the same time the Qur’an praises Abraham’s son, Isaac. There are many parallels in the narrative of all three religions and the Oratorio tells the story with compassion and transcends a message of hope and peace.
I have taken some shots of the premier performance October 28, 2015. Enjoy the attached link which represents the scope of the performance. Soloists, chorus, children’s choir and a Jarrahi Sufi Choir with Whirling Dervishes.
We at Holy Blossom are looking forward to repeat this magnificent message of harmony.
