November 18 in Grade 2
This week in Grade 2 we started learning about the different things that you can find inside a synagogue/temple! We were able to learn the names of all the things and where in Temple we can find them. We also had the amazing opportunity to start learning about Hanukah with the special musical guest, Avishai.
Intergenerational Day is next Sunday and students are invited to bring in a grandparent or family friend to show them what Hebrew school is like. Along with our special visitors, we are asking for grade 2 students to please bring in a family heirloom, or a picture of a family heirloom. We will be using their heirlooms to create a family book with the help of our special visitors!
In Hebrew class this week we learned 3 new letters. The letter Aleph, Vav, and Vet. The letter Aleph is silent unless there is a vowel under it for support, and the letters Vav and Vet both make a “V” sound. We also learned 2 new words. One was “Havdalah,” which we learned means separation and it also is what we call the little ceremony that divides shabbat from the rest of the week. The other word we learned was “Ve-Ahavta” which means and you shall love. We figured out that this word is what starts the first paragraph of the Shema prayer which talks about loving the people around you.
