November 16 – Grade 8 & 9 – Karen and Geri
We were so fortunate this week to visit the Holocaust Education Centre as a follow up to what we had learned over the past two weeks with Geri Durbin. Our group first heard from Edward Fisch, a Holocaust survivor who eloquently told his story of survival from Hungary. Edward was passionate and well spoken and encouraged the students to be grateful for the amazing country of Canada that we live in. Edward shared how he arrived in Canada in the late 1940’s with nothing but 25 cents and was able to raise a family and find success.
Following the speaker, our facilitator Michelle took us through a walking tour of the museum, showing us important artifacts and asking us critical questions which helped us relate to the horrors of the Holocaust. It was a powerful and educational evening that we will reflect upon again together in class next week. Thank you everyone who attended, especially the supportive parents who shared the experience with us.
