Nov 29 – Grade 3 – Maya
It was such a great pleasure to see many of you today. Thank you to all the parents who joined us for the special program about the significant of Candles in Judaism. I hope you had an informative and enjoyable morning with your son/daughter. We sang the Hatikvah with the leadership of our shamash –Rebecca and also Lily who joined us during the Service. We brainstormed together to examine the various candles in our Jewish life such as : b-day, Shabbat, Havdalah, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Yom tov (major Jewish holidays), Ner-tamid, Chanukah, wedding (customary) and yahrzeit (anniversary of a death).
We then had an interesting session with Rabbi Helfman about “light”. To conclude the program we made “Mosaic Wrapping-Paper Chanukiyot”. We are so proud of all the beautiful chanukiyot that all the students/parents decorated. Next week, we will bring the final projects home.
During our Hebrew session, we introduced the letters of the S’vivon – dreidel – (Nun, Gimel, Hay and Shin). We found out the letters on the Israeli dreidel (Nun, Gimel, Hay and Pay). What is the difference? (The Shin stands for sham, meaning there; the pay stands for po, meaning here.) In addition, we examined a variety of S’vivonim (wooden, plastic, clay, pewter etc) to see if they fall into the category of S’vivon or just a spinning top. We practiced reciting the brachot for Chanuka. Also, we made an additional Chanukah brachot card to go with the Chanukiya we made.
Next week, we will continue to work on lesson #9 and we might have a short quiz. Please ensure reviewing the letters/keywords of all the lessons through #8 included. (website:http://www.behrmanhouse.com/click-and-read-free).
Shavuah Tov,
