Note to the Congregation: Benjamin Applebaum
By Dr. Harvey Schipper, President.
Very recently our Executive Director, Benjamin Applebaum, expressed his intention to step down after more than a decade. For many Presidents he has been the source of knowledge, advice and responsibility for the day-to-day operations of a complex organization. To his professional colleagues he has been a partner in continuing our legacy. To congregants he has been the administrative centre of Temple. Friend, colleague, and wise voice, I have counted on his energy, knowledge and integrity.
Benjamin first broached this possibility with me early in the spring. We both considered the decision deeply over many weeks. After allowing time for Benjamin to inform his colleagues, the Board was informed at our meeting on June 27th.
Your officers set about a search process as soon as Benjamin made his decision final. Several outstanding search firms have responded to our request for proposals. Our intent is to select our consultant in the next week or so, and immediately begin working with you to welcome a successor in the Fall.
Meanwhile Benjamin continues to work with us, moving the congregation forward. In keeping with his nature, Benjamin has assured us of his support until his successor is in place.
