#MyMembership creates lasting memories at our home away from home

Synagogue membership is not something to be taken lightly. It is a place you will spend Shabbats, holidays, and numerous lifecycle events. Raising children the decision becomes even more weighted – where do I want them to be bar/ bat mitzvah’d and grow as Jewish people?

Once my husband and I moved to Toronto (his hometown) we needed to join a shul. My husband grew up at Holy Blossom so for him it was the logical move. I wanted to explore our options, after all, it’s an enormous decision. It didn’t take long for Holy Blossom to feel like a home for me as well. Now I can’t imagine spending the most important moments of our lives anywhere else.

For religious education, we wanted a place that our children genuinely enjoyed learning. While we lead very Jewish lives at home we know that education is an essential piece of Jewish identity. The religious school experience has been extraordinary and they look forward to going every week. I’ve even continued my learning through the Melton course where I’ve gained deeper appreciations for our Jewish values and made many new friends.

The values of Tikkun Olam have been thoroughly instilled by synagogue life. Through Holy Blossom, our kids have had the pleasure of volunteering for Out of the Cold. Those experiences have opened their eyes to the world around them and inspired them to reach out to other organizations.

Our children are 5th generation members of Holy Blossom. Their great-great-grandfather was a founding member. It is incredibly meaningful to see their pictures now lining the walls near photos of aunts, uncles, and grandparents. It is a place they feel comfortable, welcome, and truly enjoy being.

As a family, we’ve found a real community, formed friendships, and made countless memories within these walls. And we know it’s only the beginning.
