Musicians of Tomorrow

Dear friends,

We are marking the first anniversary of our move into 27 David Shuv St., Rosh Pina – and still are overwhelmed at our wondrous good fortune. The house has made an enormous difference to all aspects of the project for both students and teachers. There are rooms for teachers to work simultaneously as well as practice rooms for students before, during and after lessons. The atmosphere is both serious and inspiring. The space allows hosting concerts, workshops and master classes comfortably and the guest suite provides accommodation for guests and teachers coming from the center of the country or abroad.

Performing is an integral part of our “learning by doing” educational philosophy. There have been many concerts over the past few months – particularly featuring our younger musicians including those from Acco. We were also privileged to do a concert for the entire 3 generations of the Eisen family from Toronto.

Leat Sabba has come from Tel Aviv to do several weekend workshops for both the older and the younger students. She has been instrumental in arranging works for us, notably Metamorphosis (Bustan Avraham) and Golijov’s “Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind.”

Professor Michal Tal has held 3 master classes for promising young pianists from all over Northern Israel – an activity supported by the Jerusalem Music Center in Mishkenot She’ananim. Our young violinists also heard and met Maxim Vengerov, Mischa Maisky and Christian Tetzlaff. Miriam Freed will be giving a master class to Ronnie Arbitman at the end of the month.

We are proud to share the achievements of our graduates:

• Marik Karlinsky has been sent by the Jerusalem Music Center to the USA where he is currently performing – all the serious American Music Academies are competing to attract him as a student.
• Genya Gerchikov is completing high school at the Israeli Academy of Arts and Science.
• Erez Fogel is nearing the end of his first year of study at the Buchman- Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University. He plays double bass with the University orchestra and toured Brazil with them.
• Amit Amar and Barak Dan are both officers in the army and come to the music school on Fridays. They continue to perform with MoT.
• Yaheli Bari won first place in the recent Jerusalem Music Academy national classical guitar competition in the 16-20 year age group. (Yaheli is 16 years old.)

“My Israel” organized a very moving visit with the Maltz family from London. Joshua Maltz made MoT his barmitzvah project and raised a significant sum.

Evelyn and Howard Ross hosted 2 concerts in their home – both attended by guests from abroad who have been involved with Mot almost since the beginning.

We are looking forward to Anny Berman’s Galilee musical weekend retreat at the end of May when close to 120 guests from the center of the country will enjoy 3 concerts in 3 different venues, as well as the opportunity to visit sites and meet old friends.

On May 30, 2018, our young trio will be giving a concert in Toronto as part of Toronto’s Jewish Music Week. Ronnie Arbitman, violin; Manya Suisa, piano; and Lavi Zarfati, clarinet will perform a repertoire of Jewish composers from Mendelssohn to Gershwin.
