Moving Traditions at Holy Blossom
We are excited to be launching Moving Traditions, a new program that will be housed monthly in our youth lounge. Moving Traditions is a North American-wide program which empowers teens by fostering self-discovery, challenging sexism, and inspiring a commitment to Jewish life and learning. The program’s two groups – Rosh Chodesh for girls and Shevet for boys create safe spaces for teens to discuss issues including identity, the role of gender, academic stress, friendship, body image, peer pressure, and more. Parallel to the teen groups, we will hold parent groups, who will meet simultaneously and cover similar topics as their teens. Each session will include some time together, as well as separately. These groups offer mentorship and positive peer-to-peer relationships both for teens and their parents. Moving Traditions draws on Jewish values and teachings, gives teens a place to feel safe and be ‘real’ with their peers, and inspires a lifelong connection to Judaism.
Our Rosh Chodesh and Shevet groups will be meeting one Tuesday evening each month, at 7:00 pm starting October 9. I am excited to be leading the Rosh Chodesh group, and Daniel Abramson, a temple member, and inspiring Jewish educator will be leading our Shevet group. We are extremely fortunate to have Rabbi Splansky and Rabbi Satz working with our parent groups.
Please join us on Tuesday, September 25th, at 7:00 pm, for a ‘Taste of Moving Traditions’, where teens and parents will have an opportunity to experience the both Rosh Chodesh and Shevet.
