Photos: Mondays at the Temple Wraps Up Another Successful Year!
Our seniors gathered together Monday for the last of our weekly sessions before the summer break and what a wonderful day it was.
We listened (and joined in when we could) to a varied selection of songs sung by Sharon Smith accompanied by Jordan Klapman. Sharon and Jordan have become a tradition; back by popular demand, they have closed our program for the last 4 years.
To add to the sense of community this group has created at Temple, we celebrated Gary and Toby Ciglen’s 60th anniversary; Toby and Garyhave been part of the group almost from the beginning. Marilyn Farber thanked each of the volunteers who make this program possible and presented them with a beautiful peach-coloured rose and a card indicating a donation had been made to the Jean Fine Seniors Fund.
We reminisced about the programs we had had this year – study sessions with the rabbis and cantor, an opportunity to hear from such speakers as Steve Paikin about Premier John Robarts, Dr. Julia Zarankin about the myth and culture of St. Petersburg, Ian Leventhal about the art of the Shoah and Terezin and our trip to the Rom with Geri Durbin, to name just a few. We said goodbye to Ren, Sommer and Sasha, the students from CSIS, who helped Melanie Nesbitt lead the exercise component of the program and had our last taste of the delicious soups prepared by our special “soup ladies”, Kathy Green, Janet Ryval, Sue Devor and Gail Goodman.
[green_message] Our program starts up again on Monday, September 12 at which time Judie Oren, author of Cry of the Giraffe, will be with us to talk about Operation Solomon, Israel’s recue of 14, 325 Ethiopian Jews. [/green_message]
