Monday February 8 – Stuart & Samantha
Grade 7
On the heels of our visit to Shaarei Shomayim last week, this session our group took part in a de-briefing activity where we tried to highlight some of the differences between our Temple and the Synagogue we toured.
Some of the differences and similarities we investigated were of architectural nature, while others delved a bit deeper and posed some interesting questions and conversations. As we spoke about the objects and ideas, the discussions started to investigate the reasons behind the differences, and then evolved into a comparison between Reform and Orthodox Judaism.
This class positioned us well for our further research on the World’s religions.
In the second hour, Samantha led the class in a collaborative exercise, which saw our students ranking and prioritizing statements about our Temple and Reform Judaism. The results were interesting and seeing how the Temple plays a role in our lives was a great portrait of modern Reform Judaism.
