Monday February 8 – Daniel

On Monday the students practiced their calligraphy skills and participated in a drawing workshop to talk about Jewish identity and their own experiences.  In the second half of the class, students walked around the temple trying to find objects and images that communicate values in the reform movement.  For example, students took pictures of the dedication plaque beside the old elevator.  It represents how our community recognizes the importance of including congregants of all different abilities and is committed to finding ways that each person can be an active member of the community.

Also, the stack of mattresses in the Philip Smith Foyer are a visual symbol of HBTs commitment to social justice through our participation in the Out of the Cold Program.  The objects and images around temple allow us to look at our own values objectively and compare and contrast them to the values of other Jewish movements and of other religions.
