Monday February 1 – Karen

As part of our unit on women in Judaism we explored two different issues. First we looked at the issue of women covering their hair in orthodoxy and heard from one woman (video) who feels empowered by this mitzvah. Hearing her words helped us discuss the challenge between law and personal preference. Next we looked at the group Women of the Wall and talked about their mission and decades long struggle. We celebrated their recent victory of obtaining a meaningful egalitarian prayer space at the Kotel. Follow this story at www.womenofthewall.org.il
