Renewal construction updates (almost) as they happen, for the week of November 14, 2016

Work has shifted into a higher gear these past couple of weeks.  The “links” that previously connected the original 1937 building to the newer school wing are now all but removed.  Eventually this space will frame our gorgeous new Atrium.

Demolition is continuing on the lower level too, in the area that previously was the foyer of the Philip Smith Congregational Hall, as our contractor is working to eliminate some of the steps that prevented congregants and guests from flowing easily.  This will eventually be a beautiful new space, with more natural light for our simchas and gatherings.

Large sections of structural steel have been brought on site this week.  Photos of the delivery and unloading may be found here.  These beams will be temporarily installed under the floor of the space that was previously the Eisendrath Auditorium, and are designed to suspend the floor surface while excavation for a new mechanical room on the lower level takes place.  A new floor will then be poured for the new administration wing (some months from now) and then these beams will be removed.  It continues to be a complicated yet fascinating project.

All of the work is being done to make way for our beautiful, light-filled central Atrium, Library, Café, Youth Lounge, Family Chapel and the rest of our Phase 1 spaces, all in a LEED Silver Certified, environmentally-friendly building.
