Late inning heroics come up short for Holy Bs
Holy Bs Baseball Update – June 19.
The Holy Bs’ comeback bid fell a little short on this otherwise picture perfect Father’s Day. The Bs put up 4 runs in the ninth inning but lost 18 – 13 to their fierce rivals at Pride of Israel. The difference in this one was the 4 or 5 balls that Pride managed to hit over the fence where even the steady Bs’ outfielders could not reach them. We did manage one homerun ourselves and it was of the inside the park variety by speedy rookie Matthew Dicker. Veteran Allan Lyons also hit a nice triple. This Father’s Day also saw some great plays by some of the team’s fathers in the field. John Phillips was credited with the play of the game by going behind second base for a grounder, turning and throwing the runner out by half a foot. Well done John! Three other fathers combined for a nice out at third base when Adam Griff played a ball at the wall and threw it to Randy Cass who made a perfect relay throw to Richie Borins so that he could tag out one of the biggest players in the league as he sauntered towards third base. The general consensus was that if this guy had slid Richie would have been en route to the hospital. Randy did some quick math and pointed out that the total age of the players involved in that play is approximately 130 years!
Next Game: vs. Temple Emanu El – Sunday June 26 9am at Crosby Park – 302 Crosby Avenue, Richmond Hill. Fans are always welcome.
