Join in the Jewish Community’s Support for Alberta’s Fire Relief Fund
As the fire rages on and refugees from this natural disaster are still unsettled, we all know there is more we can do to help. Our HBT community has invested much time and resource in helping refugees from abroad. Now it is time that we turn to those in our Canadian community that need our help.
As the UIA writes:
The Jewish community of Canada stands in solidarity with the victims of this unprecedented natural disaster. Jewish Federations across Canada and Jewish Federations of Canada – UIA have joined together to raise funds to assist Canadians affected by the devastating wildfires in Alberta.
Fort McMurray and its surrounding communities have been impacted by the raging fires, which have damaged and destroyed thousands of homes and properties. Over 88,000 people have been displaced. Officials are reporting that Fort McMurray is currently uninhabitable and it will be weeks before residents are able to return.
Edmonton, 500 kilometers south of Fort McMurray, has received the majority of the evacuees. This is placing a heavy toll on local agencies, food banks and shelters.
100% of funds donated will be directed to those in need through our partner the Jewish Federation of Edmonton.
Monies raised through the Alberta Fire Relief Fund will be distributed to local organizations and services that are providing direct aid to those in need, like the Edmonton Food Bank and Edmonton Emergency Relief services.
This is a terrific initiative. I’m so glad to be a part of this amazing organization.
