Important News: Russ Joseph
Dear Holy Blossom Family,
I want to share with you that I am going through a significant personal medical challenge, as after suffering through a very difficult last few months, I now have a diagnosis, that of an advanced form of lung cancer.
I have already had an outpouring of affection from those who have heard what I am going through; it is much appreciated. However, I need to focus on getting better and am not capable of responding to a large number of emails and calls. Rather, I would be grateful if those of you who wish to express your words of encouragement do so in the comment section below. You can leave your greetings there and I will make a point of visiting daily and deriving the strength that I need from them.
I am optimistic and determined to fight this, just like any other challenge that I have ever faced and hope to see you all very soon.
Best regards,
Russ Joseph

I’m a good listener, if you need an ear; I have time during the day to go for a slow walk, if you’d like fresh air; and I can attempt at baking your favourite dessert (whatever that may be).
In other words, I’m here if you’d like a friend.
Take care,
Be well,

Your optimism and determination to face down the challenge are superb weapons. All the best!

Dear Russ: It seems only days ago, when you sat quietly and listened with great empathy as I told you of my similar diagnosis. To which, I send back all the good wishes I received and helped heal me(so far) and many more. I wish you strength, and, most important, the ability to be a patient–to give in and rest on the days when the The big C is bigger than you.We don’t need any heroes, we need you. Work from home, or don’t work at all on the days when it all seems too much. Be good to yourself, but also, permit people to be good to you. When we both are better, we will have a grand celebration–champagne for me and your beverage of choice. You will be in my prayers. Phyllis Wintraub.

Dear Russ… We, like the rest of the Holy Blossom Temple community, were shocked and saddened when we heard of your diagnosis, and immediately began praying for a Refuah Sh’lema… a complete return to health. If anyone can beat this ugly disease, you’re the guy. With the same determination that you face every other issue or problem in your daily business at HBT… and God knows how you beat each one with elegance and grace… you will too overcome this. Besides… you have the entire congregation cheering you on. As someone we both know well said in a sermon a year and a half ago, when she spoke of her illness… we all need you for the long haul. Do what you need to do and come back to us soon. Sending love and best wishes… Bob & Nadine

From the day you first arrived at Holy Blossom I have admired your tireless energy, your positive attitude and your ability and willingness to be very visible across all Temple activities – both religious and secular. You have been there for us; now we must be there for you. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you constantly and we yearn for your return to full health.
