I have attended a Profeti della Quinta Concert and Loved it!
By Jack Kugelmass.
In March 2013, Cantor Maissner heard about a concert scheduled for the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts of a group that sings the music of the noted Jewish Renaissance composer Salomone Rossi (ca. 1570 – 1630). He and a group of congregants decided to attend the concert and were overwhelmed by the artistry and skill of Profeti della Quinta, an Israeli vocal ensemble, based in Switzerland. The concert was preceded by a documentary film, The Search for Salomone Rossi Hebreo that explores through music, the history of the Jews of Mantua Italy, the birthplace of Rossi, where he was inspired to write music for the synagogue whilst serving as the court composer for the ruling Gonzaga family.
Cantor Maissner and the Musical Heritage Concert Series Committee were so moved by the experience that they have invited Profeti della Quinta to perform at Holy Blossom on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 7.30 pm. The documentary film, The Search for Salomone Rossi Hebreo, will be shown as part of the evening’s program. Profeti della Quinta possess a mastery of Jewish music of the Renaissance that is astonishing – the concert is a must see musical experience.
