How we’re raising the (glass) roof
Renewal Project Updates (almost as they happen)
These past two weeks, our general contractor, Pomerleau, has been putting in place some critical preparatory pieces of the project so that the major structural Phase 1 work can proceed.
The most significant component has been the removal of major portions of the roof that cover (actually, it’s now more-accurate to say used to cover) the third floor of the older section of the Temple, in the vicinity of the former HABSTY lounge. This will enable the large steel columns that will suspend the glass roof of our beautiful new Atrium, to be hoisted into place. As part of the preparatory work to accommodate this structural steel, concrete footings have been poured on the lower level and have been positioned to accept the steel when it arrives, within the next week or so.
Also, during this past week, several of the walls on the second and third floor have been removed, further making way for the reshaping of rooms and spaces. That work will begin as soon as these final demolition details are completed.
As a reminder, Phase 1 of our Renewal Project includes our beautiful, light-filled central Atrium, Library, Café, Youth Lounge, Family Chapel and other spaces, all in a LEED Silver Certified, environmentally-friendly building.
