How walls can disappear and then reappear

Renewal construction updates (almost) as they happen, for the week of January 9th.

After taking a well-deserved seasonal break, our construction team, headed up by Pomerleau Inc., returned to the site and completed the intricate work called “panelization” that we briefly described in our last update.  This involved precision-cutting five massive concrete panels on the south-west corner of the 1938 building and removing them with a large crane. The relocation of these sections of wall will make it easier for the crews to do the heavy excavation work that’s necessary going forward, and will also safeguard these iconic segments so that we can realize our design vision of seamlessly blending our past with our future, with sections of our original 1938 wall featured prominently inside our new Central Atrium. These segments have now been safely relocated and will be brought back to the site several months from now for re-installation.

Very soon, construction will shift to underpinning, as excavation commences on the lower level adjacent to the former foyer of the congregational hall, to accommodate new our new mechanical plant.

Remember, all of this work is being done to make way for our beautiful, light-filled central Atrium, Library, Café, Youth Lounge, Family Chapel and the rest of our Phase 1 spaces, all in a LEED Silver Certified, environmentally-friendly building.
