Heavy labour continues after Labour Day
Renewal construction updates (almost) as they happen, for the week of September 5, 2016.
Last week, three large garbage bins were delivered by our demolition subcontractor and the difficult work of removing, sorting and disposing of the demo materials began. This includes separating all items that can be recycled, in order to reduce the net environmental footprint of our Renewal Project – something that has always been a priority for Holy Blossom.
If you’ve been to the site recently, you know there is construction activity all around Temple. Late last week, we temporarily took down the hoarding on the north (Dewbourne) side of the property, in order to make way for the large digger. This signals that the heavy excavation work in the foyer and the lower level (for the new mechanical and electric rooms) is about to begin. This process includes proper shoring of the structure that sits above, so that we may safely scoop out below.
All of this work is being done to make way for our beautiful, light-filled central Atrium, Library, Café, Youth Lounge, Family Chapel and the rest of our Phase 1 spaces, all in a LEED Silver Certified, environmentally-friendly building.
We are also making arrangements to mount a powerful construction camera just beyond the active work zone, so that we can all view progress on our Renewal Project online, in real time. Once we have the camera in place (and it’ll be soon), we’ll send you the link. Additionally, as soon as Phase 1 of the Project is complete in the fall of 2017, we’ll edit all of this footage into a time-lapse record, for archival purposes.
As we noted in our last report, all construction activity will be on short hiatus during the High Holy Days, and the site will be safe, secure and quiet. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur service locations and room assignments have now been finalized, and we’ve done our best to make direct access to the various worship venues easy to follow. Please click here to find out how to access all High Holy Day services this October.
As always, we thank you for your continued support. For all the latest photos of Renewal construction in progress, please click here.
