Grade 5 students this Tu B’Shevat: an inter-congregational study program

Grade 5 students from Holy Blossom Temple Religious School met together with students from Beth Tzedec congregation and Congregation Beth Sholom for an inter-congregational study program. In honour of our recent holiday of Tu B’Shevat, we gathered to have a serious look at water usage in Canada and in Israel.

The students were very surprised to learn about the amount of water that is wasted daily in our country and specifically in the city of Toronto. It was an eye-opening event. The children finished up their day planting parsley seeds which we hope they will nurture and grow in time for eating in April at Passover.

Today I learned about how much water we use in Canada compared to Israel. I can’t believe the difference, and hard to believe but in Toronto we use the most! We should learn from Israel who does have a lot of water and tries to conserve water. Even though we have a lot in Canada, my sisters and I are going to take action by only taking baths once a week and showering the other days but only for five minutes at a time. Maggi
