Grade 4
September 2015
Dear Grade 4 Parents
I would like to introduce myself. My name is Sandra Merovic; this is going to be my 24th year teaching at Holy Blossom.
With this New Year comes a new beginning, new goals, and new resolutions, I would like to renew my commitment in delivering the best I have to make this year a wonderful experience for your child.
We became a team today; please ensure that your child shares with you what we learned in class. The door of our class is always open and I am happy to see you any time!
Today we took a little time to introduce ourselves, to learn about each other. We learned that the Jewish calendar is a lunar calendar and the new moon this month brings the Hebrew month of Tishrei.
During Tishrei we celebrate Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Succot and Simchat Torah.
On Sunday we reviewed Rosh Hashanah: The Head of the Year – the New Year. We discussed the symbols: apples, honey, Shofar, as well as we talked about new resolutions and requests. I hope that your child will share with you the wishes they have for this holiday. We finished the class with sweet honey and apples.
In Hebrew we reviewed the vowels with a few “tricks” on how to remember the sounds. We read the first page of our new Hebrew book about Rosh Hashanah.
Suggestions: Use the Hebrew Sentence: “Shana Tova” during the Holidays, ask your child what they learned today especially why the Holiday starts at the evening and how they know that is a new month?
We will continue with Yom Kippur and Succot next week.
Your feedback is appreciated. Please feel free to call me at 905-597-2209 or by email at zvisan@rogers.com
I would like to take this opportunity to wish to you and your family Shana Tova; a Year of Peace and Blessings.
Best regards
Sandra Merovic
