Fully funding Phase 1 by the time we open. A dream and a challenge.

So many in our congregation have taken our Renewal Project call to action, “ALEINU … it is upon US”, to heart. We’ve raised over $5 million dollars in this last year alone for Canada’s largest-ever synagogue building project. That is truly phenomenal momentum. And our canvassers are currently engaging with dozens of families, and looking forward to beginning the conversation with hundreds more, about becoming part of our growing list of aspirational contributors.

So the challenge for our generous community becomes this: can we raise the remaining $4.2 million of our $31.5 million total in time for our planned opening this summer? Based on our recent fundraising success, and the Renewal of Spirit that has come hand in hand with our Renewal of Space, we feel that together we can absolutely make this happen. Just think what a beautiful and symbolic thing it would be to enter into our brand new, transformative Atrium on Rosh Hashanah knowing we have fully-funded Phase 1 of our Project.

Much of the construction work these past two weeks has been in preparation for the installation of the skylight, the glass enclosure that will crown our gorgeous, new Central Atrium.  Most of the major components of this steel-framed, glass canopy arrived on-site during the past ten days. There is a small amount of structural steel work still to be completed before we are completely closed in and the final cement pour on the third floor (the steel works up from the floor sections) is scheduled for this week.

We look forward to the site being fully enclosed, and therefore, protected from the elements, so that every detail of the interior and finishing work for all Phase 1 spaces can proceed on schedule. All in anticipation of a summer completion date.

A reminder that Phase 1 of our project includes our light-filled Central Atrium, as well as our brand new Family Chapel, Café, Youth Lounge, Judaica Shop, Library, modern heating and cooling systems and more … all in a LEED Silver Certified, environmentally-friendly building.

Temple professional staff, along with many wonderful volunteers, have been meeting regularly to begin planning for how we will use these new spaces. Each of these working groups is tackling a specific component of our renewed campus.  So please continue to watch this space and your Holy Blossom Temple Bulletin, as details of all of this careful planning will be revealed soon.
