December 2 in Grade 5
Debbie had a unique opportunity on Sunday and taught the Grade 5 class. We had a lovely time together, discussing some of the concepts relating to Chanukah – not only was the miracle of oil significant, but more so the victory of a small group of Jews who banded together to stand up for their right to practice and believe their religion. The question out to the class was, “what do you think you might have done if you were living at the time of the Maccabees? Would you have fought against the Greeks, or assimilated into Greek culture and society”?
We also had time to talk about Deborah – one of the few female prophets, and at the end of our day did some very good Hebrew reading. The best way to feel more confident is to read at home – anything – and practice practice! It will help!
