De-MYTH-tifying Family Law

With Jennifer Samara Shuber and Rabbi Jordan Helfman.

Rabbi Helfman will begin the session with an overview of practical family law in a Reform Jewish framework.

Jennifer Samara Shuber will then continue by dispelling popular family law myths and misconceptions.  She will give information on family law topics that apply to everyday life.

Just as we strive to educate our children of dangerous myths, we ourselves need to be reminded that television dramas are divorced from the Canadian reality regarding family law.

Come to learn the facts. 

Our discussion will cover topics including how to protect an inheritance, what it means to be common-law, steps to secure a Get and decision-making after separation.

Jennifer Samara Shuber, B.A.; LL.B., M.S.W., C.S.

Having practised family law exclusively for over fifteen years, Jennifer is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a family law specialist.  She is a partner at Basman Smith LLP in Toronto.  Jennifer has a breadth of family law experience and Masters degree in social work, helping her understand family dynamics and the emotional and behavioural issues at play in family law. She handles complex property, support, and custody cases and additionally represents children in contested custody matters.
