Construction updates (almost) as they happen!
For the week of June 15th, 2015.
These past two weeks have seen the completion (finally!) of the elevator pit excavation. We have now poured the new base and started construction of the walls for the elevator shaft, including removing the floor slabs on the second and third floors to allow for the cement masons to build the new shaft walls. Now that the new door for the north-west corner of the Boardroom has arrived, we’ll soon be closing off the entrance from the Ava Lobby to the Boardroom to enable construction of the elevator shaft on the main floor.
Also, construction of our new women’s and men’s washrooms on the lower level has begun, located where the former large men’s washroom and the adjacent storage rooms used to be. Soon the contractors will cut a door from the Philip Smith Congregational Hall to allow access to these washrooms.
As an ongoing reminder, this preparatory work is being undertaken to allow our vibrant daily life at Temple to continue on-site throughout Phase 1 construction. The bulk of heavy Phase 1 construction is now slated to begin right after the High Holy Days in October, to keep disruption during this busy time to a minimum. Please visit the Renewal tab of the Temple’s website or our Holy Blossom Temple Facebook page to follow our progress in pictures and video. And, of course, we do appreciate your ongoing flexibility and support!
