Construction updates (almost) as they happen!
For the week of May 4, 2015.
We are in full preparatory work mode, as we ready the School Wing to house Temple offices and activities during Phase 1 of our Renewal construction process. And the next two weeks will bring many noticeable changes to the site:
Painting and final finishing of the temporary rabbinic and school offices will begin this week, starting on the second floor then moving up to the third. As soon as the school offices are finished on the second floor, we’ll start moving staff into that space. (Once our school staff vacates their current offices on the main floor, those spaces will be re-purposed for other administrative uses during Phase 1 construction.)
Additional resources have been brought on-site in order to speed up the digging of the pit for our new elevator on the lower level and we hope to begin installing the elevator shaft before our next update. Work to modify the men’s washroom on the lower level to convert it into two separate spaces (men’s and ladies) will begin very soon, as will construction of a new ramp inside the Philip Smith Hall, to enable full accessibility to both the hall and washrooms.
Our new door into the Boardroom foyer, providing access to the School Wing from the Ava Rd. parking lot has recently been cut and is now temporarily boarded up, as we await the arrival of new doors and hardware.
And finally, we’d like to thank our Mitzvah Day volunteers, staff and lay leadership for their tremendous help in moving our library from its current premises to Room 209. This will be its temporary location until the completion of our new library as part of Phase 1.
As always, we appreciate your patience and flexibility during the construction process as we try our best to keep disruption to a minimum. And remember, there are updates posted on an (almost) daily basis on the Renewal tab of the Temple’s website and on the Holy Blossom Temple Facebook page – check out our ongoing series of exciting photos and videos of HBT Renewal in progress!
