Brotherhood Breakfast: Holy Blossom’s own Canadian Test Pilot
Sunday, April 6, 2104
I’m pleased to announce that the next BH breakfast is quickly approaching, and our speaker will be one of HBT’s own,
Major Jonathan Knaul, PhD, PEng, CD, Experimental Test Pilot, Royal Canadian Air Force
Jonathan is the son of our beloved congregant Marie Knaul and the late Sigmund Knaul (a survivor of Auschwitz and escapee from Dachau) and brother of Dr. Felicia Knaul. He attended religious school at Holy Blossom and later went to the Canadian Forces to pursue his dream of becoming a pilot. As a combat helicopter pilot he has flown missions in Kosovo and later in Afghanistan as a flight commander.
As a test pilot Major Knaul has flown over 40 different aircraft types in 3 different countries and helped to shape the cockpit redesign of our newest heavy-lift helicopter, the CH-147F Chinook, the same aircraft used in Afghanistan. He is currently a flight commander in a tactical helicopter squadron near Ottawa, and has most recently completed a second mission aboard the undersea laboratory “Aquarius” in conjunction with the US Navy and NASA.
He will share some of his experiences with us as a Jewish member of the Canadian Forces.
Is this an event that young people (7 and 9) are welcome to attend? I think my kid(s) would really enjoy meeting him. They met Chris Hadfield and one of them was really inspired by him. Please let me know. Leslie
Yes. All ages are welcome!
