Babi Yar Seventy Years Later
The seventieth anniversary of Babi Yar—the slaughter of thousands of Jews on the outskirts of Kiev—was but a few days ago. What took place at Babi Yar, like many such horrendous acts, was kept silent for years until the shrieks of death could no longer be kept at bay. I stood at Babi Yar in 1994 and wrote the following shortly thereafter.
